"Salt
creep" and inaccurate replacement water testing are two major factors that
affect the Sodium content of your system.
Constant stable salinity is vital to coral and system health. Reduced salinity
with the presence of 0.03ppm Copper has been confirmed to significantly reduce the
production rate of corals.
Sodium levels can be maintained through regular water changes using a good quality
salt mix and accurate testing of replacement water. We strongly recommend the use
of a combined digital salinity/temperature/specific gravity meter.
Regarding salt creep; it is important to not push the salt deposits back into the
water as the large particles can fall on corals, and burn them. To minimize
salt creep, ensure that you don't have any areas of your system that "splash" water.
Splashing water, even on a small scale, is easy to locate using the existence of
"salt creep" as a starting point in your search.
