Scandium is on our test panel as new composite materials using Aluminum and Scandium
are being manufactured for use in salt-water environments. These will ultimately
find their way to the hobbyist, if they haven't already. If this element isn't relevant
to you today, it will likely be in the days to come, so we have begun testing for
it now as a proactive measure.
Scandium is considered toxic to marine organisms at high levels; Research has shown
that elevated levels of Scandium will reduce Pseudomonas bacteria
growth by 50%.
However, dosing of Scandium is not recommended. Natural levels of Scandium are ideal
in your system.
Like many trace elements in your aquarium the toxicity of each is greatly influenced
by temperature and salinity. Hence the importance of maintaining constant temperature
and salinity parameters within your closed system.
As usual, regular water changes using a good quality
salt mix is recommended for
maintaining Scandium at a level conducive to optimal system health in most
systems.
