Nickel - Ni

Nickel levels found in sea water are 0.000633 ppm

Acceptable Nickel levels in your aquarium are between 0.000633 and 0.01 ppm

Atomic Number: 28
Atomic Name: Nickel
Atomic Symbol: Ni
Sea Water Value: 0.01 ppm Specific Gravity: 8.902

Nickel levels in your aquarium:

Nickel levels in excess of 4ppm will disrupt the function of, as well as kill, some marine organisms such as various Sea Anemones.

Nickel is considered toxic to marine organisms. Like many trace elements in your aquarium the toxicity of each is greatly influenced by temperature, salinity and in the case of Nickel pH. Hence the importance of maintaining constant temperature, salinity and pH parameters within your closed system.

Nickel can be removed from the water source through RO/DI filtration and from the aquarium through the use of activated carbon. Care should be taken to follow the instructions on the activated carbon product you use, as filtered contaminants can leach back into your system.
