Cadmium - Cd

Cadmium levels found in sea water are 0.000114 ppm

Acceptable Cadmium levels in your aquarium are at or below 0.000114 ppm

Atomic Number: 48
Atomic Name: Cadmium
Atomic Symbol: Cd
Sea Water Value: 0.000114 ppm Specific Gravity: 8.65

Cadmium levels in your aquarium:

Cadmium can be used in place of Zinc by diatoms; it is thought that diatoms have adapted the use of Cadmium as a result of limited and varying required elements throughout the oceans.

As a Cadmium level of 0.5ppm will cause corals to slough off tissue and die, it is critical to keep your Cadmium levels at or below levels found in natural seawater.

Although it is recmomended that you maintain Cadmium levels in your aquarium close to that found in natural seawater, acceptable potable water levels are typically 0.005 ppm, making this task difficult in some regions. RO/DI water combined with a good quality salt mix as well as activated carbon filtration in the system will suffice in the maintenance of adequate Cadmium levels.
