Barium levels in your aquarium:

Barium is used by some micro algae, mollusc shells and corals. Corals uptake Barium
in their skeletal structure at a ratio similar to that of Calcium:Barium in natural
sea water.
Barium is considered toxic at elevated levels to bacteria, fungi, mosses and algae.
Barium toxicity increases with lowering pH. That being said; Low concentrations
of Barium
are known to inhibit the growth of Nitrobacter agilis (nitrifying bacteria).
It is recommended that you maintain Barium levels in your aquarium close to that
found in natural seawater. This can be done by following a weakly water change regimen
with clean source water and using a good quality salt mix.
